the anti-reverse failed to work after three outings.a mate has the lighter one and the line sticks behind the line roller on the bail arm.i have a shimano and never had a single problem with it.

My mate got a pair of them and 12 months later bought a pair of TDRs because the prestons were buggered, But in contrast Ive seen Tommy Pickering using them regularly his seem to be ok he catches enough fish ! Maybe my mate was unlucky.

my mate Alan Dove bought a pair of preston PXR reels after less than a year both sound like a coffee grinder he’s ditched them both, however my diawa procaster, a much cheaper daiwa is still going strong lol

i’ve got a couple of procasters they’re excellent value but a bit heavy for the wag, I’ll see if I can source some Daiwas!

Cabelas (advert at the side) sell some Daiwa reels under there own brand that look as though they might be worth a punt, although watch for the postage.

If you are on a budget don’t rule out the FD Shakespeare Mach 3 XT’s. The original 040’s I was supplied with for feeder fishing are still going strong and have outlasted reels I’ve used cosing more than double the price.

The new XT’s have more bearings than the originals and an improved bail arm assy. Given that they are supplied with 4 alloy spools at £40 or thereabouts they offer very good value for money and if the originals and the XT’s I have are anything to go by they will last a long time.
