Coventry’s Standard Triumph Angling Club’s Match Secretary from 1976-1984 passed away after a long illness earlier today aged 72.
If you fished matches on the Oxford Canal at the height of match fishing in the late ’70’s to early ’80’s then you would have known him.
Cropredy and Claydon attracted the cream of match fishing at the time including Billy Makin, Ray Mills and Micky Thill. Superb matches, excellent fishing and a fantastic atmosphere at the Brasenose Inn, Cropredy afterwards.
He introduced me to fishing and, although he would have been the first to admit that he wasn’t any good at it, it is still a passion that burns deep in my soul.
RIP Dad.
