TF_BoddeParticipantI’ve had a D36 st for 3 years now without any problem. I think it’s the best box on the market and I think it will last another ten years.

TF_Dr.PhilEven though the Rive is expensive i feel it was designed by an engineer where as some of the usual chinese built boxes lack testing and items are known to break and drop off . I think Rive are home produced , but i could be wrong.
I would sooner pay more for something that lasts and even has a good sell-on value.
Will also look at the new Daiwa unit which looks a beautiful construction.
Thanks Bod. -

TF_andynorth2003ParticipantOwned Rive’s for years now and my D36 ST Pack is the best box Ive owned.
Yeah, they aint cheap but well worth the money.
Most stable boxes on the market by a long way, never have an issue with fully extending the front legs off the end of the platform to gain that extra distance.Only gripe (only a small one) is that the plastic drawer catches eventually break and its not cheap to replace the full plastic drawer.
I saw someones box once with metal drawer handles converted. Any ideas if these are available at all??Cheers, Andy

TF_breamgodParticipantive had an original rive f2 box from new which is well over 10yrs now paid next to nowt for it never had a problem with it,i never look after my tackle n its served me well reckon it ll last my lifetime,i had a brilo box b4 that it lasted less than 6months all the draws used to stick no matter how u sanded them then handles fell off pile of crap imo.but my advice is buy a 2nd hand one cos they r expensive n yer getting the same if not more, extra units n accessories, for a fraction of the cost

TF_JohnHMy only complaint with my Rive is its heavy. Once on the bank its very stable and comfortable. If I had long walks to pegs, good as it is, I would not use it.
Two other small points, the winders are a tad brittle and the cross drawer under the seat can be a pain as it jams up frequently for two reasons. The screws that screw into the seat pad can work a bit loose and catch on the drawer or alternatively the drawer contents can jam it so be carefull how you load it up.. -

TF_craigoI had a rive c30 with sliding footplate, I added some additonal draws etc – all genuine rive etc.
In some ways the box was great – loved its lightness and how it could be adapted by moving draw units around etc.
BUT….the box would continually warp – draws and section walls came out of there plastic joints and cause the box to go out of shape (im not a pike float either! – only 13 stone). This would make the draws fall out of the runners and make them difficult to open – I’ve spoken about this with several friends who’ve also had Rives and it seem to be a common problem. Mine used to drive me insane to the point where I gave the box away.
I now use a Fox MSB which doesn’t look as pretty and it is a fair bit heavier but it’s far better made and also offers some flexibility with units etc – I’ve got another 3 pals who’ve all ditched Rive cos of the crappy drawers and now use Fox MSB’s.

AnonymousDrawers are the only let down, they haven’t been thought out properly nor manufactured to the same quality as the other components that make up the seatbox. However, i’m happy enough with mine and have no intentions of changing my old RX D25.

TF_chalkiewhiteParticipantHad a D25 for a year or so now great box -I have had a few
Current Box D25 – draw under the seat a bit rubbish, I have broken the handle already. The box is the most stable one I have owned due to its large footprint – not particularly heavy but big ( had to buy a new trolley that fitted it )
Tuffbox – great British made box – but legs are too close to the box making it difficult and awkward to attach extra bits. I found the sliding footplate difficult as well, even after fitting Preston legs
Milo Tardis – Another great box well mad , robust, but you need to be built like Conan the Barbarian to even lift it
Original Boss Box with internal legs. Probably the best box I have owned – ( and I still have it ) built like a battleship even after 10 years of use not a mark on it. The only reason I now do not use it It lacked the external legs I could hang things from table, pole rest etc. I had all the extras table x 2, umbrella fitting trolley. But if you forgot something with the table in use needed to shift everything to open the base. But again a great bristish box, made for your more substantial gentlemen

TF_Dr.PhilI have heard of faultless periods for alot of anglers but this drawer subject keeps appearing . Have they solved the fault and designed out the problem ?
http://www.nathansofderby.com/product_details.asp?d=1&c=83&p={20D2AC24-5B97-4629-8368-10F28084AB5D}
The link shows the latest RX 38 ST …….are those the problem draws ?
Also mentioned that a draw with metal handles was seen , was that Rive ?
thanks for all the advice so far Piscatorials

TF_Dr.PhilThe draws cause me a little concern as i am unsure whether RIVE have designed-out the problems through better fitment and construction ?
It would be good to find out if the metal handle conversion to the draw has solved the problem as it sounds like it was an individual repair / improvement.
I wonder if it is the front draws or side draws or both are the problem ?Big thanks to everyone’s input….see what Santa brings ? 🙂

TF_craigoThe odd draw catch etc may break but that’s not the real issue.
the drawers themselves are fine (or at least they were in mine) – it was the actual box shell that would move causing the draws to fall out of their runners – maybe the boxes with the wheel chair type frame around em stabilise things up but on the C30 classic, the box frame warped

TF_baldie1ParticipantHi,
I have a D36 Blackline and find it very stable even with my 17 stone on it, added a few units would say its very well made.
Bit of correction for Dr Phil, they are made in France not home grown.
Just off out to pick up a 4 drawer unit that was advertised on the sale pages.

TF_bagging machineParticipantAs said the draws are pretty much ok but the plastic handles break easily, I have sorted this by glueing small pieces of wooden quadrant in place. The real problem is when you have 2 or more draws to sit on. What happens is when you move about on the box the black plastic corner units must crack which in turn allows the draw to drop out of its guides it really needs re-designing. This happened on my old conti style box and has also happened on my ST.
Most people use trays so this problem doesnt arise?
One other annoying niggle is water seems to find its way through the heel style pole seat and into the top draw in fact if its raining in at an angle all the draws collect water.
If the above issues were engineered out then it would be without any doubt the best box on the market IMO. -
22/12/2011 at 6:55 pm #152794
TF_RhinoYou can fix the leaks on a heel seat by removing the flap and filling the gap with black silicone sealant – I did this when I had a heel seat and after a day in heavy rain at Trewaters I could hardly lift my box as it was full of water!! If you want to keep the flap I imagine you could run sealant around it though not 100% sure this would work.
I agree with the comments re drawers not being the best- however I have had loads of boxes and always gravitate back to the Rive due to overall quality and stability.
