Been over it virtually every week on the way to the coast from nottm,it was badly weeded up for long periods.I fished it last year on reedy bay whilst i was at the coast for a week, the weed wasnt too bad definately fishable but you had to find a clear patch and leave the feeder where it fell,i had some cracking slabs for around 80 odd lb,quite a few skimmers as well.I was planning on doing the same this year but the temps were crazy at the time high 80s-90,didnt bother in those conditions.

The Witham between Tattershall and Kirkstead has been mostly unfishable since the middle of July when the floating duckeed appeared. My mate is the bailiff for Witham Joint and since 19th July he has sold just 8 day tickets. There have been occasions when the weed has opened up and some good catches of hybrids on the waggler have beentaken, but this is a risky game as almost inevitably the weed is moved about by the wind and your day is usually ruined just as it gets going, Unless we get a lot of rain soon then I suspect the winter fishing will be even worse than the last 2 years which has been diabolical. They are due to start dropping the level in the next week so this may help clear the weed and colour up the water, but I am not holding my breath. At a recent meeting with the EA they were questioned about the weed and their response was that it wasn’t their fault and there was nothing they could do about it, so we pay for fishing on a river which is not fishable for half of the season. They were also asked about cutting the sub surface weed on the drains around Boston and on the Witham and their response was that they have 2 weed cutting boat teams in the Anglian region, one is on the Ouse 24/7 and the other one is on another river in Cambridgeshire. So we pay the same as everyone else but dont get the same service. Absolute bollox.
