Hi, having never fished with a rod/reel before i’m considering giving it a go, (pole fishing is taking it out a little on my back), I fish mainly commercials but occasionally the local canal and a local pond, I fish matches and am looking for advise on a couple of rods/reels, fishing mainly for silvers and carp (only to about 15-20lb) i really fancy giving feeder and the waggler a go having watched a few of the guys in our club, any advise on what rods/reels are available in the £50 price bracket, i dont really want to spend to much until i’m happy that i’m comfortable fishing these methods, thanks in advance.

I’d certainly recommend looking at the Drennan Red Range of rods for your commercial/carp work. I had a look at a few of them in the spring and couldn’t believe how good they are for the money (£49.99 I think from memory)

In terms of silver work, some of the Shakespeare range are very good for the money but having not seen them myself I don’t know which ones to look out for, but I’m sure others here will point you in the right direction.

Reel wise, again, I’ve heard lots of good things about some of the Shakespeare reels, while the Drennan Series 7 reels are also very good.
