RSPB membership

As fishing is my first love and already being a member of the Angling Trust and with birdwatching being another of my pastimes would joining the RSPB mean a conflict of interest in light of Cormorants and Goosander?

RSPB does go in for culling in some cases(Hedgehogs) if i remember.Why not?

Anglers and twitchers have so much in common.

I just can’t stand the hypocracy of some of them. They wanted (dont know if this is still current) to cull the Ruddy Duck because it was breeding with the white headed duck and threatening that species.

There are other examples, yet their stance on cormorants etc is beyond belief given the impact they have on waterways.

I’ve been saying for years they wont support action against them until there are no small fish for grebes, herons, kingfishers etc, which are species I love to see.

If you enjoy twitching, and will get value from membership then i’d say join. You might be able to change a few minds about cormorants etc

I remember phoning these clowns up when I was fishing a match at Cliveland Street in Birmingham a number of years ago, there was a duck on the far side of the canal caught up on fishing line, they said they would be there tomorrow, in the end with a help of a narrowboat I managed to get to the duck and untangle it and set it free, I also phoned the RSPCA that day as well.

They ae quick to get the money from you, but not so quick to help an animal in distress.

totally agree with your thoughts in not joining the RSPB 😉
