TF_Kagger TNBRather then highjack another thread, which just brought this to mind (it’s something i’ve been thinking of for a while), I thought I’d start a new one.
How do you go about choosing box?
The reason I ask?
Well last year I bought a Daiwa Tournament 400 seatbox. I liked the look of it in the shop, but when I got it home and started setting it up I started having doubts. it took me about two matches to decide it didn’t suit me so I sold it (via this site).
Next stop was a Rive. But for a few minor issues, I really like it.
So, why do people have a problem spending Rive ‘sort of money’ on a seatbox?
As I look at it, it’s probably THE most important bit of kit you own.
You need to be comfortable on it. If a leg slips or breaks in use you could end up with a bad back, punted into the lake, or worse.
You need access to your essentials, and accessories that are hard wearing and functional.
Finally, if you buy a box you like, there’s every possibility it’ll last longer than two or even three poles, each of which will probably cost you quite a bit more than your box.
Aside from financial reasons, why scrimp?

TF_One Out of the FrameRive design hasn’t really changed much from the Contibox which I had way back in the day. Good but the catches would break and the plastic drawers were prone to falling out depositing all your kit on the bank: This was a major pain in the RRRR’s then as you would be yomping with your kit and stopping to unload before picking up the bits and pieces was enough to bring on a coronary! lol
Now you could secure the draws with the carrying strap but this would lead to the drawer handles cracking… Grrr!
Good thing about the English Contibox was that it was light and I don’t think that it was that expensive. It was modular so I could have different drawers for different styles of fishing and I think I was only paying £15 a tray at most.
Fast forward 20 years and you can buy the same flimsy trays and drawers and attach it to a heavy ectoskeletal frame and pay over a bag of sand for it! Progress eh?
Funnily enough, I had been sorting through my late Father’s Daiwa plastic seat box/creel and it weighs next to nothing but I had left it where it had been able to be rained on for six months but the contents are undamaged. 😎

TF_stevemcThe first question is what seat box did you have before you bought the Daiwa seat box? The next question is why change?
• The first thing to consider is comfort, look at your legs & body angles then look at
what you are sitting on (cushion) as you are going to be seated for some time.
• Then look at all your attachments, rod rests, pole rests, keepnets & bait waiter ect.
• How easy can you get extra tackle you may need, new rigs, shot, hooks or links ect
without moving.
Once you have looked at your style of fishing and what your requirements are you then need to look at the potential boxes, look at several and not just one think of your tackle, where will it all fit. Look at the quality of things like draw & tray fastenings.
I hope this helps. -

TF_dirkdigglerI bought my spacestation when they first came out and have had no issues with it at all.
it’s still in excellent condition and does all thats asked of it.
However now Preston have updated the frame on the new version and updated the clips and footplate i’m now thinking of selling mine and pulling the trigger on the new one.
One of my main reasons for sticking with the space station is the brilliant accessories range which i already have which will fit directly onto my new one.
If i’m going to spend big money any time in the near future it’ll be on a new pole rather than a super expensive thing to sit on. -

TF_GavinMy original Preston On-Box will be ten years old this summer! It’s plenty sturdy enough for me, I can stand up on the flootplate without fear, and have been known to stand on the box to trim overhanging tree branches. It’s light enough for me to carry and holds everything I want it too. I honestly cannot see a reason to change it – I’ve never had a problem at all with it.

Negatives, all my opinion you understand.
1. Nowhere to put your big ‘stuff’ like reels etc. The end up in your carryall. I thought i’d store feeders and stuff in the draws but that just takes up too much space.
2. The base unit isn’t secured in the frame in any way.
3. The trays. They’re quite deep. Without bodging something up, how do you secure winders? They end up in a ball at one end of the tray. with the trays being deep there’s a lot of wasted space…
4. It’s not very flexible. With my Rive I have a 60mm draw and purple winder tray for river fishing, and two 30mm draws and green trays for commercials. Can’t see how you would get the same flexibility with the daiwa.
5. The footplate isn’t very user -friendly. I dont know why but I found it awkward to slide in and out.
6. It’s covered in Daiwa logo stickers, which have a tendency to fall off when exposed to daylight.
It’s lovely to look at, and I guess if you fished only commercials you could make it work, but I dont and couldn’t

TF_piperpilotKEV DON’T DO IT. I had a look at the 400 for a newbe mate and walked away. He now has a Rive D25 and is happy as ‘Larry’. I’ve had most of the top seatboxes over the last few years and absolutely none(Except for the Fox MSB Euro 1) have been even half a good as my D36 & D25 ST’s who are going nowhere,

Phil i was gonna look in fosters friday but lots of negatives putting me right off…
I looked at a daiwa 300 today and the bottom tray just sits in a recess without a locking pin like Kaggers said  ..
Don`t wanna be sticking winders in a draw thats too deep either 😮
Thanks for the input fellas…
