TF_ever7onI am looking to upgrade my pole, currently have a tourny pro but picked up a 774 and loved it.
Anyone had any problems?
What’s a good back up pole?
Advice on what tips to go for?Mainly fish commercials for silvers, F1’s and match size carp – odd ones up to low double figures.
Any advice appreciated.

TF_wildingukHad mine 6 months and love it. Only problem I have had is with the number 4 that came in the pole, mostly my fault but it was v weak and has cracked along the seam line when I have broken down. The joker card will replace it, but as I have plenty of other number 4s I will wait until 11 months in case I have any more breakages.
As for top kits, I would go for mostly match kits if you can. I know Andy Pell (tractorboy on here) uses match kits without the number one for elastics up to double 8. The UK power kits that come in the package are essentially a match kit without the number one, though slightly lower grade carbon I think. The big fish kits are great too, can’t notice much of a weight penalty and really strong. They’re just not quite as stiff.
If you fish canals for silvers, the best tops are the comp tops that you’d have to buy seperately. I have a good few from my last sensas pole, and they are stiffer and better grade carbon than the match tops. They are only rated to a number 8 elastic though, so I wouldn’t use them for commercials. I use them with elastics of 2-5 for purely silver fish. Though they never complain with a bonus bream or perch.
On a whole though, I love my 774. It’s light, stiff, strong and does everything I ever want of it. The other thing I love, is the short 6/7. My god what a useful section. Most of my fishing is on drains, and it’s great to be able to have effectively a half extension to use from 6-11.5m before the half butt kicks in.

TF_tractorboyI have recommended the 774 to quite a few people who have gone on to buy one and they all say they are well pleased with it.
Use a competition 4 and top kits for silvers and its awesome. Add a match number 4 and match kits and go Carping on commercials with confidence. Big fish tops, power tops are good for purple hydro type work.
I use a Carp extreme margin pole for red hydro munter fishing and it fits and is compatable with the series 4 poles.
Its a top end pole with a very competitive price tag and spares that don’t cost the earth.

AnonymousLove my 774 and use it for everything. If you can get hold of them then i would buy some short 4’s to replace the normal number 4’s that come with the pole as they are stronger and stiffen the pole up even more than what it is.
Regarding the competition top kits (silver label) i use mine for carping with hollo elastics in them (preston green 13H,grey hydro etc) and have never had a problem with them, they are stronger than what they are made out to be.
What ever top kits you do have my advice would be to remove all the no 1’s and bush the no 2 section as the no 1’s are a waste of time apart from using for very light elastics for canals.
If you dont mind buying second hand then i would lookout for a good second hand one,you may be able to get yourself a really good deal.
I think Baz Walters on here might be selling his and its only 12 months old so might be worth sending him a PM for further details.Good luck.

TF_p2hl_p2hlapparently sensas is going XL on most of their poles for next year… so it might pay to wait and see, if the 774 old model drops in price, of if a new improved model will be out…
XL is extra long sections from 6th section and onwards….

TF_OmmadawnSold my Pro for the 774. Best pole I have ever had. Tried all the top models over several weeks and the 774 (not even on my shortlist) won by a long way. Picked it up and was truly gobsmacked by the lightness and balance. Lovely finish which glides nicely and one of the best spares packages around plus the joker card. Wouldn’t swap it for anything at the moment.
