Where in Yorkshire is good for silvers through the colder months?

The venues I tend to fish for silvers seem to be very slow at the moment.

Anthony is bang on re Birkwood – loads of bites on most days, even when its proper cold. Does get muddy but ok at the moment

I fished Fleets Dam 3 weeks ago had a good day catching skimmers to 1 1/2 pound on pellet. I got talking to Alan Hanson the fishery owner who was friendly and very helpfull, he’s reduced ticket to £5 pound for the winter and also lets you use keepnets for silvers.

There’s normally a good days sport to be had on the river Calder anywhere between between Elland and Wakefield.

If i didnt work every other sunday i would take you up on that!

I fished there a lot last winter and had some great catches, but i havent been since i moved back to barnsley.

As for the fleets, i fished there a lot in spring catching plenty of carp on the bomb before fishing smithies a lot more.

How are the skimmers being caught?

River don top side sprotborough falls is alive wi skimmers to 2lb+ on tip plus gudgeon short.

S&K throughout thorne fishing well for roach n skimmers.

Plenty of dace n roach showing on tidal don from barnby dun to bramwith.

New junction canal at sykehouse for odd chub, bream plus plenty of perch.

Bet Southfield ressies will still be good for proper bream….given current temps..if not then try turning round on ya box n ave a dabble in Aire n Calder.

                        good luck!

Langold lake @ Langold is fishing really well for the roach and bream at present. Just off the wall either on Waggler or on a 11-16m pole line. Balling in is still working with Choppy and caster. Roach to 3lb and Bream to double fiqures. Some very good fishing to be had.

Alot of people hold back from fishing it because of the weed, but it pretty much all dead now and as its a Natural venue its the same every year during the warmer months. But the ‘Wall’ is fishable all year round.

                          Worth a go!

Fleets Dam it seems to be 4mm expander over micro with the odd expander also, light rigs (4 x 12) if conditions allow. If its towing you can get away heavier rigs and lay on a bit and feed micros in a ball.

                            Hope that helps
