REPORT
This latest Soldiers and Sailors AC club match attracted a turnout of 20 anglers on the popular Kingfisher lake at Beechwood Park near Elvaston Park. The lake fished really well with most anglers catching good numbers of carp.
Having a decent draw on peg 3 that has some recent form helped Steve Hoult career ahead of the field. His excellent top weight of 112-02 recorded on the scales was more than enough for a clear win. Hard pellet fished over some micros on the mud line worked for the early part of the match. This peg does have a reasonable depth down the margin which Steve exploited to the maximum in the later stages of the match by feeding micros, dead reds and worm hook bait to account for a number of good size carp that boosted his weight for the win, and well clear of the second weight.
Rob Pembridge took full advantage of a good area to claim the second place with a good 74-04 weight of carp. Drawn on peg 14 Rob took five early carp on the feeder for around 20lbs. It was the change to fishing the paste at 6-7 metres that produce a steady run of carp throughout the rest of the match.
Pole and paste, one of John Adamson’s favoured methods help to secure his third placing. Having drawn on peg 35 in wide area of water John fished paste at the start to catch a few fish, then when bites slowed he switched to method feeder to add several small carp while his swim settled before returning to the pole line and paste for several more fish. In spite of a poor final hour he placed 72-02 on the scales to secure the third place.
Malc Munn took fourth with 67-0-0 from peg 37, catching well on the method feeder at first but adding a run of several big carp in the fin al hour from his margin swim.
A 58-8-0 net took the fifth place for Paul Richardson on peg 19. Sixth place went to Mitchell Hoult with 56-6-0, peg 17.
