What are people’s opinions of lines for stick fishing?

        Which would you recommend?

        Cheers.

I use 2lb Drennan float fish, can’t fault it.

I now always use Drennan Floatfish for my stick float. Floats well.

I used to use Berkeley XL (Extra limp I think) which was a very soft line with no memory whatsoever. Haven’t seen it about for a while though.

Match team line by W.B. Clarke (was Silstar) 5.5 or 6.6 for barbel & lighter for roach etc. Works well on both centre pin or fixed spool/closed face reels. I thought it was a forgotten art!

Ah, stick float fishing! Just remembering it makes me want to get out on the rivers. Thought it had gone out with national service and food rationing.

Line choice depends in part on what you are likely to catch. In the old days I got on easier with 1.7 Bayer, which I thought easier to control in the wind and which lifted off the water. But if bigger fish were on the cards I’d use 2.1 Bayer. Much beyond that and it didn’t really feel like stick float fishing because you lost that deft control.

On those rarae occasions that there’s actually some water and flow in the river I’ve found Terry Eustace’s Pro-Gold in 2.5lb b.s (2.0 knot strength) to be ideal for stick & waggler fishing.

Many years ago i read a comment by Roy Marlow on how well copolymer lines float. Eversince i have used .12 in various brands, for roach fishing, and they float high all day and are easy to pick off the water – much better than the traditional lines in my opinion
