There were 17 double figure weights in total.

Cracking day all round and hope someone can step in next year as Dave has announced his retirement. Also a big thank you to sponsors and helpers on behalf of all who took part.

Possibly the most disappointing and frustrating match i’ve ever fished.

Really fancied it at the draw as it was in the ‘bream area’ (Peg 84). Longest walk to a peg ever. Easily over a mile.

Set up and started on the tip. Nothing.

Switched to maggot feeder after an hour. Nothing. Nothing on the waggler line after feeding it with maggots, caster and hemp for an hour either.

I didn’t have so much as a sucked maggot or a liner in five hours.

No fish topped, no fry spooked in the margins. Nada.

The section was won with 2lbs.

Then an hour walk back to the car.

Not the best – but will still go back next year hoping for a draw!

Brilliant it was won with a weight of roach and well done to all those who framed. Simon W’s 700 gudgeon is probably a world record…..

Hathers, the pegs below the bridge are real snag pits though, God knows what must have been lobbed off that Bridge over the years. Derek Willan below me spent 2 and a half hours on the feeder losing a rake of tackle before switching to Pole. He’s got to be a bit sick because he then only got done for section by 11ozs after giving the rest a start.

I also lost 6 feeders…. well it was actually 7 but I got one back in bizarre fashion.
I ‘caught’ my 3rd Bream when I hooked into a feeder I’d lost in a snag earlier with the Bream still on (it was definitely my end rig). When your luck is in, it’s in.

Many congrats to Roy(Katrino).He fully deserved his “biggest payout” to date.Okay he did draw on a Bream peg,but a)its a difficult peg(very snaggy).b)The river was very clear and the weather was bright.You still have to get them out.
Also a very big hand to the other lads that fish with us on the Thames,especially Mark Lindsey and Mark Harrington who won their respective Sections.Simon Willsmore`s weight was unbelievable,as Fordy has mentioned,and must go down as one of the great Thames catches,along with Ray Mumford`s(legend)Bleak records.
The winners weight of 26lbs from the Lahelam stretch was pure class,and Robert Wright fully deserved his massive Cheque.
The Thames is back with a vengance lads and i think there will be many more matches on our river in the future…..Watch this space…MTB.

As Fordy has mentioned in his post earlier,i too was in the favoured Bream Section at Molesey.The walk was the longest i have ever had to a peg,but like Andy i stepped out lively enough at the start of it in anticipation.I drew peg 83 which was 2 pegs off the winning peg of the previous 2 years Thames Champs.Okay it was 1/2mile downstream of it,but i set up my 2 feeder rods with great hope in my heart.
Unfortunately the tip stayed motionless all day,and as news spread down the section i realised that this year the area was going to fish dire.For your review i would like you to cast your eyes on the Sections result.

Well done Roy im really pleased for you, I had a really frustrating day in the last hour and a half i was pestered with Bleak. But i still ended up with 11lb12oz which with the class of field to end up in the top 17 was a result for me.

GREAT to see the gudgeon making a comeback i know fish have cycles but i thought we had see the last of gudgeon the river soar used to be full of them i know simons 19lb is a great weight it was quiet common on the river to get double figures one man stands out in my memory and that was barry chaplin i’m sure his best weight of all gudgeon [no bonus perch or roach] was 23lb he also tied on weight in the same section with a bloke they had 17lb 15oz in a ten peg section

i’m not sure if they will ever come back here as we are over run with crayfish probably the cores of the decline in numbers ~sick

Great to see the silvers making a comeback everywhere it seems. 26 lb of roach to win the Thames Champs is fantastic news, so is the 19 lb of gudgeon ~clap ~clap. Well done aswell Katarino on 2nd overall ….. great reading MTB , nice one ~clap ~clap ~clap

Having had a good look at the results sheets it was a decent match apart from the first 30 pegs at Molesey. 15 DNW’s and only 4 anglers breaking 2lb, one of them being Graham Dack with 15-2-8 from peg 91 (i.e. more than the other 29 pegs in total). Why they sometimes shoal up like that is a mystery, he said it was solid and he caught virtually all through.

Outside of that area though, aside from the double figures there were 27 weights between 5lb and 10lb with quite a few admitting they could have done better if they’d had a pop at the gudgeon during quiet spells.

Hope we are all back again next year.

mmm Thanks Mick and Sponge for the crack in the morning the highlight of my day.had a right SHIT day 5Th section snap in half and that summed up my day.

But i would like say well done DAVE HARPER and his team for yet another well organise event

Dingdong. Chris’s peg might be by the rowing club making it a PITA but most of us locals would have run to it. Aside from it being a good peg in it’s own right they’d left out the pegs on the roadside so you had big Chris on a decent peg that was also an end peg. An angler that good was never going to make a mess of it.

Nice to see Alan Symonds of bar/dag did well 6th overall and a section winner by the look of it, I hope alan doesn’t accuse me of drawing well next time we meet up ( he normally does ;o)) I shall remind him about the flier he drew on this thames match lol

seriously – well done mt8 fantastic result well pleased for you and congrats to all the winners,seems like a great match might have to have a word with JB about fishing this next year. having recently fished the trent (some would say attended the match lol) then the colne maybe I should have a crack at old father thames.providing I can get a ticket lol

Thanks Ding dong and Katarino i really enjoyed my days fishing on the River apart from the last hour and a half when a spoilt kid fished of the platform and abused his mother for the remainder of the match.I must add i was catching well up until then.
Anyway i did have a chance of moving as a steward came upto me and gave me the offer as i was right next to the Rowers platform to the left. The reason i never moved was due to being told that it was a good area (not an end peg as there was 2 anglers to my left) and i had asked the rowers when they were finishing which was 10.30. Well done Katarino for coming second and i would like to thank Dave Harper for running an excellent match. Long may it cotinue

Sorry Chris, I was misinformed then about where you were, Stu said you were last one before the narrow Roadside bit. You were well informed though because it is a really good area.
