TF_KatarinoFished a small knock up on one of the better Wallingford stretches today. It fished pony but that wasn’t the main concern.
An awful lot of swims were occupied by moored narrow boats, some of whom had gone so far as to be placing pot plants on the bank and judging by the growth of vegetation had been there for weeks rather than days. I believe that the ‘towpath’ limit for mooring on the Thames is 48 hours, anyone know different? If this is the case then maybe the local council and the controlling club might want to chase this up because if they are allowed to stay to long there may be some right of stay. I probably shouldn’t add this but I will, the boats in question are nothing more than river caravans as far as I can see and there are no pump out facilities there, if you get my drift……..

TF_MICK THE BOOKIEKat(Roy?)………….We have been having the same problem on the Thames our end also, especially at Teddington and surrounding area.
The man you want to answer your question is Keith(Fblues). He has raised this topic before, and also has negative thoughts on the legality and health issues concerning these “water travellers”.
I am sure he will answer your question if he sees this thread, but if not send him a pm.
What are your views on the demise of the Lower Thames Champs by the way?Take care fella….Hope to see you on the banks of the Thames again in the near future…Mick. 🙂 🙂

TF_FBluesContact the EA as it should be their responsibility. They are the people that issue licences for boats. There are designated moorings with time limits but as the man who runs BW Fisheries said to me: “How do you move a narrowboat, and if you find a way, where do you move it to?” It is the classic “Do-as-you-likeys”.
Here’s the relevant info:

TF_KatarinoFunnily enough PTB BW do have a policy of confiscating unlicensed boats and scrapping them and recently carried out a purge on the shropshire union but it is a major problem and getting a boat removed is a tad more difficult than lifting a 1980’s Merc. I didn’t want to use the phrase river pikeys but that is exactly what these are.
Mick, massive shame about the Lower Thames Champs but it was a huge organising job done by Dave and his team, I don’t think some of those who talked about picking it up realised how big a job it was. Davies ‘might’ be running something in September but it won’t be on same scale.
