I still have an old LEEDA Blue thermal Baby Grow, can’t find any info on them on the internet cause I think they’ve stoped making them. Used to cost £25-£30. Leeda used to do two versions, a dark Blue one and a slightly more expensive green one at £40-£45.

Preston have a good one out now in 2 piece or 1 piece for £35 I think.

My preferred, is craghopper thermal lined trousers, a long sleeved base layer polo from berghaus or similar maker, a micro fibre fleece top over that and a craghopper windproof breathable fleece jacket, then bib and brace and jacket. Also wear a neckwarmer and thinsulate hat. Socks are sealskins, boots are goretex lined walking boots, and I wear a set of walking gaiters over the trousers but under the b&b you would be surprised how much cold air whistles up open trouser legs. Can’t get on with rubber boots skeetex or otherwise and find feet oversweat and get cold.

Avoid cotton T-shirts and Sweat-shirts, or denim jeans they will not keep you warm.

You need to build up layers that breathout moisture but retain heat.

If you want to wear a baby grow fair enough, but they’re not the most elegant thing to wear in the pub after a match. If you have any sort of trog to your peg then you’ll be a sweaty betty. They might be cheap but you may not always be cheerful.

i have an edz base layer ( which i bought for under my motorcycle leathers )
as a mid layer a two piece preston quilted undersuit the bottom half of that is a bib and brace which is great.
on top layer is daiwa tournament fleece with bib and brace and jacket.
feet, normal socks with baffin trapper boots.
head, fleece hat with peak cap underneath.
hands vaseline rubbed in then contour avenger gloves.
if i were to get cold with this selection on i’d be going home or dead.

For the money, i think it has got to be the Sundrigde SleepSkin. Had mine for a couple of years and i would buy another one without hesitating.

Nash Second Skin. I have tried many other types of under clothing and not found anything to equal them yet.

                      Another vote here for Sleepskin.

Although I no longer fish in the winter, I do work outside all year so it sees plenty of use.

The Preston quilted two piece suit is fantastic, the bottoms are a bib and brace. The secret with this is to ware it next to the skin. Put the top on first and tuck this in the bottoms to enable the bib fastening to be on top of this and so more comfortable.Really warm and terrific value IMO.

Tried a few over the years but the one I’m using now is streets ahead of anything else I’ve used. Expensive but great – Helly Hansen prowool freeze zip baselayer. If there’s anything better I’d like to know.

Halkon Hunt goretex thermal trousers, expensive but very very warm !!!

For my top half I used a micro fleece (berghaus)combined with another micro-skin fleece loverly and warm

Fladen one piece undersuit. Designed to be worn under the mullion flotation suits worn on the lifeboats. Quality but buy a size bigger.
