TF_Waveney OneHear, Hear!
And why go through all that farce when Talk Sport announced that ‘The Press’ had established that England had gone out on the first round of voting!
I agree, boycott all FIFA tournaments. The only down side is that we won’t get teams like Brazil having friendlies here. I presume UEFA would boot us out of the Champions League as well.
One thing is for sure, I will never see another world cup here in England during my lifetime. I missed the last one live as well as the old hormones got the better of me and I was out with a woman that Saturday afternoon!

TF_GaryI think the fact that we already have all of the stadia and infrastructure actually went against us. The Russians will have to build something like 14 new all-seater stadia and sort out their transport problems (especially internal flights) to ensure that people can get around. That will mean massive investment and leave a lasting legacy.
If you look now at FIFA’s recent track record of awarding world cups (South Africa, Brazil, Russia, Qatar) the common denominator is the massive investment needed to prepare for the tournament.
I am sure that all of the stuff with the English media did not help either, regardless of what the ExCo members may have said publically. If they think that it has been bad so far, just watch the press now that we have missed out…

TF_drawbag1967Are the players now slaves to the FIFA machine, Russia is one thing but playing the World Cup in Qatar is madness.

TF_GaryTo be fair, if Qatar can do for the World Cup what Abu Dhabi has done for Formula 1, let the Middle Eastern oil dollars roll in…

TF_Waveney OneWhy is such an important vote done in secret? The whole process should be seen live on TV.
I still cannot understand who ‘let it slip’ or why the result was known to the press long before the official announcement. One good thin at least the bloater had some of the pomp and puff taken out of his sails!

TF_Waveney OneFrom http://www.qatarvisitor.com
“Hottest average temperatures in Qatar peak at around 41 Celsius in June and July. Of course, that doesn’t reflect what it is really like to be out in the sun in the middle of the day when temperatures can reach or pass 50 degrees Celsius.
It’s also worse in the city, where air-conditioners pump cold air into the houses but hot air into the city.
The towns are also located in the coastal areas, where there is greater humidity. Everyone who can leaves Qatar for the summer.

02/12/2010 at 4:40 pm #124022
TF_caster robParticipantHeard lots of callers to 5live & TS this afternoon complaining about it.
They all said that we should have won because we had the best league in the world, best stadiums, best players, most passionate fans and above all the BEST BID.You could clearly tell, just by listening to them, that they had intimate knowledge and possibly first-hand experience of bidding for major sporting events!

TF_NW Cut AnglerHaving the best bid is immaterial. The awarding of all such events has become a game of ‘politics’ and scandalised by corruption.
Russia is an incredibly corrupt country and many of the voting group will become incredibly rich. Qatar has the wealth too.
The Panorama Programme could not have helped. I think they should have waiuted until the vote had taken place and then destroyed it. I wondered if Blatter’s comment re it important to learn how to lose was cryptic etc.

02/12/2010 at 5:06 pm #124030
TF_bremesParticipantIt makes the euro song contest voting seem above board, caster rob you are so wide of the mark its untrue. We had the best stadia, most passionate fans(every game would have sold out),all grounds within 3/4hrs drive, the most hotels,& the best merchandising/revenue bar none.Jeez in Russia never mind 4hrs drive to ALL the grounds, there is 11 time zones!!.Remember the hotel prices for the champions league final in moscow???,god knows how much they will charge now, fans were forced to sleep on the street!.
-
02/12/2010 at 5:07 pm #124031
TF_Vince8Big money has won the day for both 2018 and 2022. Interesting that Quatar will build 22 stadiums then dismantle them after the final and distribute the bits to other more needing countries. Now, thats a winner!
England knocked out in first round so they knew because they had to cast their vote in the second round. The Russians looked very smug before the result was declared, I thought Arshavin looked embarrassed.

She screamed after the letter was opened and shown to the crowd.
David Bond BBC Sport said about Sepp Blater
“Before today’s World Cup vote, Sepp Blatter reminded FIFA executive comm members about “certain media” and “recent media coverage.”
It just shows how much England is liked, the media hasn’t helped.

He wouldn’t like it as he is in it up to his neck! He treats football like he is Caesar and football is the Roman Empire. Private jets here there and everywhere and Switzerland changing their laws specifically to suit him!

Anything where you have a large group of people casting votes is so vulnerable to corruption. I would dearly love for somebody to ask Blatter and every person who voted on what grounds they made their decision because by all accounts for both World Cups the best bids, technically etc etc did not even get past the first round which necessitates question being answered.
Hate to say it but old Turnip Head, Graeme Taylor called it right.

TF_DodgeI agree with everything that has been posted on this thread ~clap ~clap
I am not going to put my political hat on (labour) HRH , David Cameron ,Seb Coe , David Beckham , Bobby Charlton etc , etc were fantastic in Englands cause and made me proud to hope that England would get the world cup ….. the bookies even had England @ 8/13 on this afternoon after their sterling efforts, HRH etc, etc had to walk away humiliated to the extreme
Is now the time England as a nation fought back against the corrupt FIFA political bandwagon and boycotted the next world cup ? Surely we have have nothing to lose …..
Great Britain / England has become a door matt for the world / FIFA / Russia etc to walk all over ….. its about time as a nation we did something about it imho !

Ah that would make sense mate as it would seem that way if you wasn’t watching it on the TV.I agree Dodge everything one of our bid team especially Beckham and Eddie Afekafe deserved a better outcome.
Tell you what was pathetic Arshavins attempt at a cry half way through his speech, ridiculous!!!

TF_JohnHPower corrupts absolute power corrupts absolutely.
If you were a FIFA executive voter where would you go to hide the back handers? Our press would have been like a dog after a bone, from what is reported Russian journalists dissapear. I cant imagine Khatar has a free press either.
If taking the game to new uncharted areas of the world was the main criteria as is claimed by Blatter why did we and the other Europeans bother? It is claimed that we knew we had votes in the bag that did not materialise, does this suggest a degree of dishonesty?
Old turnip head has called it correctly, see BBC news web site.
Honestly the best thing the man in the street can do is;
Bin the Sky as this is the major source of money for the game and money is the reason for some daft things going wrong with the game.
Turn off the footy on free to air channels so the BBC stop pouring money in and the ITV adverisers will soon walk if veiwing figures dip.
Use the money you are paying into this pot to do something else. I binned my Sky and its saved me £600 a year.
Starving off the cash is the only way we might get the game back.
As for a boycott forget it, we wont qualify anyway as the premier league is full of overpaid foreign mercinaries who deny out local kids many opportunities to flourish.
This once again is due to instant wins being required to keep the gravy train rolling. All just my humble opinion of course. -
03/12/2010 at 2:08 pm #124173
TF_bremesParticipantAndy Anson chief of englands bid team has just let the cat out the bag.Basically we had 5 certain votes+3 strong assurances for the 1st round of voting,24hrs prior to the announcement, all shook hands with prince william, becks & andy anson. He was asked “so what changed?”…,he replied “Blatter made strong representations to the 8 delegates “reminding” them of englands devil media”,in other words he warned em off!.Anson said he met two of the delegates in the hours after the vote,he said they could not look him in the eye,i bet they couldnt!.As blatter and his fifa cronies despise us so much, regrettably i think we should withdraw all the millions that are poured in to overseas football development, let fifa pay it or even blatter,i would imagine he can afford it~think.

TF_piperpilotThat vote was about as straight as a Pakistani cricketers over. Personally I think that this is a devastating vote for all sports as a whole because it begs the question ‘Is any sport 100% clean’. I hope and pray that our own beloved sport is untarnished by these avaricious pieces of filth,
