Hi Leaky
I run the main winter league at BW so can give you some general advice.
As it gets colder the carp take a back seat but in most pegs Id start by having a couple of casts on bomb and pellet or method whilst waiting for pole lines to settle.
The pole should be your main approach. Id normally go for 3 lines – expander and corn over micro at 14-16m; groundbait and maggot/caster at 11-13m and caster short (2plus2).
Your main focus will be the silvers – skimmers on pellet; roach on caster short and both on gb line. set up deck and shallow rigs for short line; on a hard day u may need to fish shallow caster on the gb line.
Rigs, no more than 1gm; usually half gramme or so is plenty subject the wind. 0.12mm line for pellet and I use black preston solid 8 and 16 tubertini 808; 0.10mm for maggot line to an 18/ 20 midi 6313; with solid 5 through top three; 0.8mm for caster with solid 5 or three to a 6313 18 or gamma maggot.
matches have being won with mid thirties recently with best silvers only weights to 34lb. These my drop off a little as the cold bites but you’ll still get plenty of bites.
Enjoy.
