TF_hjartatHow do i prevent the pole to suck up water when holding it just below surface to avoid the vind ?

TF_lumpit’s very tricky. it’s worse with tops that are cut back for thicker elastics. have you tried a soft bead on the elastic?

TF_rik_jSensas have something called water stops, they are like a very soft rubber bead. Slides onto the elastic before you tie the connector.

AnonymousI use the small yellow Preston Dacron Connectors which have a soft rubber bead, I use mainly light elastics up to No.6 or 8. Water still gets into the top kits which have the larger bore (Zircon Bungie Top) which have 3mm Internal PTFE bushes, haven’t had much problem with the Match Tops with 2mm internal bushes.
Don’t know if the rubber beads will cure the problem but i suppose they will help.

TF_guntamake sure your bung holding the elastic creates a vacuum, ie no gaps around it,, side puller holes will let the air out

What’s the advantage of the vacuum?
The Drennan bungs I use have a groove down either side to allow the buildup of elastic lubricant/water to escape, so I can’t get the vacuum effect unless I change bungs.

TF_guntait stops the water creeping up your top section when you submerge the tip

lol m8, no it doesn’t, if a foot of tip is submerged then the water will enter inside the pole to the level of the surface film.simple physics, if some sort of sealing device ie rubber bead is used then the elastic has to be tight enough to seal the bead against the bush, so generally your elastic is too tight

Even bigger LOL m8.
Put a bottle into water upside down and see how water enters! None. For the water to enter the air has to escape. The basic mercury barometer works on the theory that it needs air pressure to increase to force mercury up the barometer. Even more basic but correct physics.

TF_Waveney OneAs has been said, make sure the bung is air sealing the bottom end and you can forget about rubber beads etc at the top end. I do agree that with lighter elastics if the elastic was tight enough to make the rubber bung act as a seal then it would be too tight in all probabilty.
As a matter of interest the original diving bells had no bottom and were bell shaped but the water never entered unless they tipped up.

How many pole tips enter the water at 90 degrees straight up and down .now get yr upside down bottle.place it in the water at the same anglethat a pole tip will .probably 1 or 2 degrees and see wot happens.yr bottle will be helped by the fact it opens up into a massive area with an internal shoulder.something a pole tip does not have.I agree with your physics if yr fishing between your legs by the way.

TF_mart4666Also all the bungs I use have a hole for extraction ie storage bungs and pull bungs very hard to make airtight. There’s obviously bungs that could be virtually sealed tight but how do ya tension elastic.
Ps I’m not having a go just asking the question.so don’t everyone get all upperty again lol.
