Hope that’s not a river bank.

There’s hardly any water in most of them.

          Good for you.

We could do with some of it around here:

Blog above is always an interesting read. Will be fishing the Itchen with Jeff again next week no doubt he will have plenty of flake in his bag searching for those 2lb redfins.

Doddy: Tell Jeff that he’s got a superb blog. It is fishing as it should be. Fun and finding out what is there rather than simply catching what you know is in there!

That video on the Sowe is superb. If I think it is where I think it is (99.99% certain as I used to work as a nurse in the community in Coventry and the backdrop can only be one of two places but only one of them has a footbridge over the river and therefore it narrows it down) then it is even more remarkable for that.

I worked in Bulwell, Nottingham for a while that had a similar stream and that was stuffed with chub and roach. One rod, one hour and bag up!

The best thing about the blog is that it makes you want to get out on the bank. Once again, a superb read.

I will pass your comments on OOotF, must admit I don’t know Jeff that well only from couple of previous trips to The Lower Itchen Fishery. Will say though as you have picked up from the blog watching and talking to Jeff and his couple of mates is like turning the clock back, real ‘Passion for Angling’ stuff. Kelly Kettle on the go, pork pie being sliced up with pen knife and a relentless pursuit of individual target species with tackle that no commercial angler would be seen dead with (no offence intended). As you say fishing as it should be.

I went on a ‘recce’ to the Sowe and confirmed that it was the location that I suspected. I was equipped with rod, bread and my ten year old son who managed 5 roach at 2oz, three in the 6-8oz bracket and one that was every bit of a pound (and a minnow) in less than an hour!

I did take some photo’s so may upload one later.

In my very humble opinion, it would probably better to fish a float as the water is so shallow (between 20″-30″ deep!) the fish will move about a lot and you can cover more water but what fish to be had in an area that is so obviously not fished.
