My beloved wife made me a great surprise:-) I got pair of Daiwa Tierra reels (which I knew would get) and Preston space station with full preston off box accessories and additional add on units(I have no idea how she knew what add on units and accessories she should buy),preston trolley and free flow pole rollers. I get much more than I deserve:-) Merry Christmas 4all

And I replaced the diaphragm in the syphon, using a home made item cut from some plastic packaging, without having to drain and remove the cistern.

Since then I have been mostly drinking Glenlivet.

My family know never to buy me fishing gear for Chrismas, I own so much of it already!

But, this year my Son Daniel purchased me an 8 foot spinning rod and a reel with 15 lb braid set up, the idea being we would borrow a mates rowing boat that is moored on the fabulous Filby Broad, this, and the adjoining Sportmans Broad would be our hunting ground for Pike on the 28th of December, well it blew a bit and rowing against it proved to be far from easy, but boy! did I christen my new bit of kit! using a silver Toby lure for most of the day, I tried various plugs etc, but kept returning to the Toby, I accounted for 12 jack Pike, from 2lb up to low double figures, in the gin clear shallow Broads, (average depth is about 4ft), there were times we could see the pike follow our lures right up to the boat and turn away at the last moment, what a great day, me and Daniel do not get out much together now as he is working in the offshore industry and is away for long periods of time, so days like that are extra special to me.

Well got given a big wrapped box from the mother in law – on the card it said ‘Happy Fishing in 2012’ so I thought this could be great or rubbish, but fishing stuff is fishing stuff – right???

Turns out to be a hand held food blender (great for making soup apparently…) so no idea what the not so cryptic clue was about, perhaps if the have electric sockets fitted by the pegs/bankside I could liquidise some worms…
