Just back from first ever week there (won’t be last), here’s what I learnt:

        – F1s are finicky, winter soft elastics a must
        – Preston Shuttles are popular, good and I’m getting one
        – There are a lot of on boxes sold!
        – Orange Bazookarp is brill
        – set up a big landing net head
        – There are plenty of tackle tarts out there, seems if you buy the Daiwa Tournament Goretex you are compelled to wear it at all times!
        – Caravan 93 is near the road!
        – I now know what a professional weigh in and results service is like
        – 8 pints of bait sounds a lot but it isn’t
        – Some people can’t read rules (saw casting feeder before the all in, line too short between pole and float and baited pole cup over water before start – all in my 6 peg section on the silvers match!)
        – Always set up a bomb rod if method fishing
        – Make rigs up on 0.20 so you can use an 0.20 hooklength!

        Probably others I’ve forgot!

                You forgot to add:

Learn how to cast the Method Feeder with accuracy over short distances.
Don’t go there thinking your going to catch 100lb of fish every day.
Take waterproofs because it gets bloody wet down there.
Don’t book yourself into a match on the Sunday after coming back, you’ll be shagged from the drive.

I have also just come back from white acres, it was my first time there and i loved it, i won my section in the silver match, met some great people and learnt tons about my own fishing ability. I pleasure fished peg 16 on twin oakes one evening and had the best 3 hours fishing I’ve ever had. The place is awesome.

Yes, was good meeting up again, Ant. Free pint for life does help in the bar :). However, its the first time i,ve spent more evenings in a lodge/caravan than in the bar at W/As. That never helped with my results, lol. Not the only one to struggle including some very big names. I still love the place and hope to be back during the summer hols and for the Maver/Preston festivals.

Try 10mm pellets. The big roach love them, too!

                                    1. Buy Jugs.
                                    2. Private vans dont smell of p**s.

I think Jamie may not be there anymore, I was down a few weeks ago and I never saw Jamie.
Its a pity that a win at all costs mentality affects some of the anglers. Clints team do all they can to ensure fair play but they cant watch everyone. There have been a number of disqualifications over the years, some high profile anglers too, so my advice is check the rules and stick to them. If in doubt ask and the team will clear up any issues.
The money at stake is not life changing, its all for fun really but that is not how some see it, good luck to them.
