Baz WaltersParticipantWhat rods do you Barston regulars use for long range method chuck for the carp and the shorter chuck for skimmers and f1’s.
Cheers

TF_MarkTGarbolino Super G 11 and 12ft feeder rods will do.

TF_Wheely Crap AnglerI use Greys G-Tec 11` Feeder for most pegs. If you draw fountain pegs or island pegs on the road side it`s a 90+ turn chuck so I use a Daiwa TDSL 11/13 set at 13`

TF_Nigel.For a big chuck i am using a tourny pro 12 foot feeder rod with a 45 gram preston method feeder. I chucked 85 turns today, 100 is passable with no wind.
The Garbolino 13 distance is also very good. For a short chuck, i use a preston 10 foot bomb rod. (up to 40 yards)

TF_Nigel.Realy?
Who, what, where, when?Pete Bennet won today casting 73 turns on peg 22!
The lake is only 180 yards wide at its widest, and mostly 150 yards wide, so 90 or 75 yards is half way.
It is 100 yards to the fountain, from both banks, as i put it 100 yards from the river bank, and 100 yards from peg 124 on an angle, to try and get it out of reach, but it has caused this massive casting competition, i may have to move it right into the corner out of casting distance, lol. -

TF_carpmagicParticipantTo be fair i have fished Barston a lot this year and at no time has it been a casting match. In fact i would go as far as to say you can chuck too far at times, particularly in the fountain area.

TF_Nigel.Pete won with 109lb today by the way.
Your right Steve, that 40 yard chuck has been the most popular and successful this year.

TF_FEEDERMAN_222Hi Baz,
went last Friday as i had no work on and fished peg 116, used 13′ spectron and hit the middle no problem and did the same with lighter 12′ preston rod, so you don’t need anything to beefy unless you have a big head wind.
stuffed with F1’s briliant place, shame its not closer, roll on next year………

TF_SliderSo whats the trick to stop them F1s falling off the hook ?
I have to be honest I love the place but still have a lot to learn , Im ok when it comes to the pole side and do catch pretty well however Im getting battered by the feeder anglers, any tips would be very very welcome.
I have picked the brains of lots of lads with regards to baits etc but just cant keep the fish on the hook.

TF_FEEDERMAN_222At Barston, can you place a platform in the water to fish from or do you have to fish from the bank….

TF_SteveMaySlider, I agree with you about them F1s. This thread should be titled…What hook for Barston. In my opinion using the right hook will get you a better weight than using the right rod.
Anyway up until Saturdays match I have tried plenty of hooks at Barston and never been satisfied with my “hook up to catch ratio”
That is until asking Andy what he uses, I used them in our match, result 50 F1s hooked 48 landed. Never come close to that percentage of landed fish before at BarstonThe hooks he gave me to try, and I’ve since bought a few of them…. Guru QM1s in a size 14. Best method feeder hook ever IMO.

i would suggest on taking a platform as some pegs do require one imop…i used mine on saturday as it would of been impossible for me to fish the tip with the way the peg was set back amongst the reeds..

TF_Nigel.The water was a foot down a month ago, so we were wading, but its full now after all this rain, so youu can fish from the peg, and dont need a platform (you can if you want!)
I have also been losing the F1s, and i have tried everything, and ended up with a shorter rod, (10 foot)and a longer landing net(12 foot)!
