TF_NathanWatsonI’d take 3 kilos of worms, maybe 4 pints to a gallon of casters and then caster maggots if you’re keen!? Plenty of meat, maybe a bit of corn and hemp, groundbait, 2 kilos a day and then buy bags of micro, 6 and 8mm pellets there and decide what to take after draw! You really need to ask someona that knows it after draw, you could ring me and I’d tell you what I’d do and take if you can’t find anyone better there!

TF_RhinoNathan sums it up pretty well – Im fishing both Dynamite and Milo and I’ll take 12 pints of caster in case its hard and you need a few for Porth. If you double bin bag them and let them breathe for 20 mins a day they will keep for the week, some do turn their bait whilst there but its a major faff and u need a transit van to carry all the trays etc to do this.
Btw you HAVE to use the Whiteacres pellets – they are good quality in the main so dont fret.
Re approaches the form of the place will be readable through the match results in preceding weeks; remember though to do well you are looking to win your section, not the lake and the pegging is good, in fact on Pollawyn and Bolingey its staggered around the lakes to reflect pegs overall form rather than just sequential.
Same offer as per Nathan re pegs, give me a shout if your stuck for advice and Mr Ringer etc is not around to ask! There are a LOT of ways to fish the pegs at WA and some vary a great deal (especially Polly and Bolingey) which influences the bait and methods you take to your peg (many matches are won and lost in the car park when deciding on baits etc).
Most of all though just go and enjoy it.
Gear wise – for carp its mostly light-medium hollows with pullers and 0.14mm – 0.18mm,, hooklengths; rigs to 1gm though mostly less than that.
10-11@ tip rods, mostly method work, bit of bomb in harder sections.
Occasionally Pellet wag can work though its not heaviliy featured in recent festivals.
Porth – mostly fishing for around 150 small silvers on feeder/ pole/ waggler though some big bream showed last autumn on the feeder to upset the odds a little. You need waders and a platform. -

Worse casters going, take your own.
When your going to White Acres dont get bamboozled with info you hear in the bar, keep an open mind its no good listening to Joe Bloggs in the bar who won his section yesterday fishing meat and waggler or long lining with 16m of pole and then go attempting to do something your not good at ive made this mistake. Most methods will catch fish on the right pegs, 2 + 2 and meat should not be ignored nor should fishing caster / meat shallow on some of the iffy pegs on Pollawyn you can do 60lb silvers in pegs that are void of carp.Just because you take loads of bait doesnt mean you will need it either last baittech i used 24 cans of meat 8pts of caster and 3 kilo of groundbait, and 3 kilo of worm. take your ground bait allowance everyday its ok to feed a margin swim.. all that bait mentioned was for 7 days fishing I fished sat and sun before the festival which i reccomend you do, you hear anglers saying theres no point practicing before the match, theres every point, everyone who did well on the baittech was fishing on the sun prior, good luck.

TF_NathanWatsonCasters aren’t that bad, i’ve won sections on em! Not cheap though and not generous measures! So what lake would you practice on anthony, the 1 you’re on 1st day?

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantNathan, last year I was lucky to have Polly on the Mon so why not practicse ? I know its not match conditions but you might just notice someone catching particulary well on a certain peg or not catching anything and you may well draw that peg this has to be an advantage. I wouldnt bother with Porth or Bolingey mind if I had them Mon.

TF_RaggyWhite acres have now started turning there own casters instead of getting them brought in.
There pretty good now but i’m not sure whether they will continue doing this during the festivals, with the high demand!! -

TF_NathanWatsonI never said you shouldn’t practice! I normally have a few hours on Pollawyn Sunday afternoon if I get up in time! But most of the top anglers I know don’t fish and I’m shocked at your statement saying the top 10 in that festival did! 😮

TF_RhinoSome practice, some dont. Quite often some of the “names” are making videos or mag articles on the weekends.
I try to have a few hours to get in the groove, perhaps a bit of method fishing if Ive not done much prior to travelling down, or sit on a flyer at Bolingey and bag up as I always seem to be on duffers on the actual match!! lol!
Porth would be worth practicing – but its a major hassle with the long walks and need to get in the water etc.

I should have probably said the lads I saw fishing Polly on Sun did well in the festival, Paul Yates were fishing at One side of me, he won the festival, Jimmy Garside was at the other side of me he were in the money regulary that week. You are right theres alot of good anglers who wont or dont practice I think Chris is right Lee Edwards and Des Ship were fishing but doing features.

TF_carpmagicParticipantIve never practiced on a sat or sun. For me the only point would be to get my kit right but as i’m fishing a fair bit anyway that isnt a problem. I personally think its difficult to learn anything when you arent in match conditions as the fish behave differently when every peg in is along with keepnets etc.
Its each to their own though and i know a lot who do practice but they are mainly first timers to whiteacres.
