If you read though the results then you should get a feel for the lakes and the best methods at White Acres. The other piece of advice is to fish to your strengths. Lots of fish to be caught on loads of different methods and baits on most of the lakes.

TF_drawbag1967Don’t go there thinking you’ll catch a 100lb everyday Larford it ain’t.

TF_Rhinoin my experience at larford on fish O qualifiers you dont get 100lb there every day either – Phil Briscoe was pegged next to me a couple of years ago on speci lake, announced we would all have a good day — He blanked!!! I’ not saying larford is poor – just highlighting that all venues vary on the day and they all definitely dont like a lot of pressure!!

TF_AnthonywatersParticipantIf your pleasure fishing, sounds like its more of a holiday than a festival, fish some of the lakes later in the day, you will bag up 8pm at night on most lakes, Whiteacres fish have a habit of shutting up shop during the day, Trelawney is the classic example you will catch 40lb in a match and 200lb when you pleasure fish the margin on an evening.

TF_Allan_MarsdenParticipantFish methods / baits you are comfortable with. As mentioned evening sessions can sometimes be far better. Whichever ‘lakes’ take your fancy have a look at recent match results to pick out the better areas. Ask the guys at the tackle shop etc. Bottom line just enjoy it.

TF_baitchefParticipantI have only fished there twice so i’m no expert but i would definitely echo the comments above regarding fishing to your strengths. Also if you do fish a match, remember you are not going to bang out 100lb out of every peg and you will often just be fishing for a section. As for lakes if you want to fish somewhere special then PORTH IS THE ONE YOU WANT TO FISH, you will have a lovely day out. You can bang out fat carp anytime and pretty much anywhere.

TF_Allan_MarsdenParticipantIf you do fish the matches re the rover. Often picking a peg with few anglers nearby works out better than picking a so called flier to be surrounded by several anglers etc.
If I was a first time I am not sure I would bother with the matches. Look to get maximum enjoyment out of your holiday and suit yourself when/where you fish etc.
