was Fishing an open on a commercial recently, and in the fairly normal mid match quiet where the carp dont want to play, i switched to catching a few silvers to top up the weight and was told by a couple of other anglers in view that it was not proper fishing! and required no skill ! as they sat motionless for most of the match fishing the tip and bag getting a bite an hour , mmmm anyway i won beating them with the extra silvers …..of coarse i did not gloat… 😉

          More fool them.
Similar thing at Wold Farm the other day (had never fished there before).
My main skimmer line was producing nothing so I got up, got a new rig out of the box and I set up a short and light caster rig and starting catching some big roach.
Got the usual ‘canal fishing’ ribbing but put weight in the net and finished second.
To be honest that was a stupid comment by those anglers. Match fishing is about beating the people around you on the day on legal methods – and there are many who would argue that fishing for silvers is the most skilful discipline of all.
