Armando Giraldo landed what is the second heaviest Orinoco peacock (Cichla orinocensis) every reported to the IGFA – and the heaviest ever recorded on fly tackle – while fishing the remote southern part of Colombia.

Giraldo needed approximately 10 minutes to subdue the beautifully colored Orinoco peacock that tipped the scales at a whopping 5.22 kg (11lb 8oz). If approved, the catch will earn Giraldo the new men’s 10kg (20lb) tippet class record, which currently stands at 2.95 kg (6lb 8oz).

South American adventure angling holiday specialists www.amazon-angler.com are said to be currently researching a stretch of Colombian river that’s never been fished with rod and line and has untold potential.
