THE National Federation of Anglers backed coaching days held during the summer holidays at Derbyshire’s Springwood Fisheries were a huge success according to the fishery.
Around 40 youngters from Derby, Leics and Nottingham attended and learnt how to fish and respect the environment.

Other groups also attended from the Derwent Youth Centre and Barnardo’s Youth Inclusion project.

The final day included a fishing contest which was won by Ryan Miller (12) from Derby with 9-14-0. The runner-up was Jack Oldfield (12) from Swadlincote with 8-4-0.

In the younger age group the winner was Luke Hurst (9) from Ibstock with 1-14-0.

The runner-up was Micheal Moore (8) from Breedon on the Hill with 12oz.

All the winners named went home with trophies and fishing tackle as prizes.

Special thanks go to Glynn Williams, angling development manager. This has also lead to the setting up of Springwood Fisheries Junior Angling Club.

Anyone under the age of 14 can join. Phone Colin or Jenny on 01332 864331 for more details.
