REPORT
A great deal of overnight rain and falling temperatures put most fish off the feed for Long Eaton Victoria Angling Society’s Annual Christmas ‘Fur & Feather’ match on the Erewash Canal, Long Eaton, but thankfully perch fed well and some superb catches resulted.
Top weight fell to Mick (‘King Choppy’) Lager who landed perch to around 2 lb in weight on worm fished over chopped worm on peg 86 to take the Fletcher Cup.  Mick ended with an excellent weight of 9 lb 12 oz and will take the top (turkey) prize at the Social Night and Prize-giving (Monday 21 December at the Curzon Club), when all competitors who registered a weight will receive a prize.
In second place was Malc Munn (peg 60) with 8 lb 9 oz, Matt Colegate (peg 75) taking third place with 8 lb.  Both fished similar tactics to the winner.
The next three were Alan Wright (peg 65) with 7 lb 7 oz, Pete James (peg 81) with 5 lb 4 oz, and Paul Richardson (peg 79) with 5 lb.
With 4 Championship matches of the 18 scheduled remaining, Paul Richardson took full advantage of Carl Henrick’s absence to slip into the lead for the first time this season with 181 points.  The remainder of the top 10 leader-board remains tight.  Carl Henrick remains on 168 points and second place, followed by Dave Kent 150, Malc Munn 148, Brian Leafe 146, John Adamson 139, Mick Lager 138, Jake Hemmings 130, Steve Wilcock 106, Ivan Carrier 105.
Championship Match 15 (for the W Hardy Memorial Trophy) will be at Higham Lane Fishery (Wykin, near Hinckley) on Sunday 20 December. Members need to book in early with Dave Kent to ensure a place.
