On the region’s commercials, pellet is still winning most of the open matches but with the cold snap that could well be about to change, with winter baits coming to the fore.

In fact the biggest weight of the weekend at Tunnel Barn farm fell to maggot, Pete Rice winning the Friday open with 71-14-0 of small carp and F1s on pole and white maggot at five metres from peg 17 on Canal Pool. Meanwhile the best weight from Moorlands Farm went to Jason Evans in the Sunday open. Despite all the other matches in the preceding week going to pellet tactics, the Browning Spa angler opted for straight lead and corn from peg 7 on Meadow Pool and won the event easily with 81-14-0.
