SPECIALIST Gary Newlands has landed a magnificent 7lb 0oz 8dr chub from Fishers Green on the River Lea on the RMC complex.
Gary (pictured below with his fish) fished the Old River on the Waltham Essex venue in the company of Bob Hornegold and also took a ‘smaller’ fish of 6lb 1oz and another of around 4lb for a terrific trio of fish.

The fish fell to maggot feeder tactics and was landed all of the fish on a size 18 hook during an afternoon session after a six month break from fishing.
”With Mick Salmon already having taken a 7lb fish from the river and with the biggest fish yet to show from the Relief Channel it looks like we are going to be in for another terrific winter of specimen chubbing on the Lee,” said and RMC spokesman. “Don’t discount the possibility of an 8lb fish showing.”

The Old River Lea at Fishers Green is a barbel and chub angler’s paradise, offering river angling of the highest possible quality.
A big head of barbel are present throughout the stretch with a high proportion of double-figure specimens to a top weight of 14lb 8oz.
The chub fishing on the river is also quite exceptional with numerous 5lb fish, a good head of 6lb specimens and the occasional monster topping 7lb.
The adjacent Relief Channel is also a fine fishery and is arguably the top chub fishery in the country at present with a number of different 7lb specimens taken during the winter of 2002 to a top weight of 7lb 8oz.
A big head of carp are also present with commons to over 30lb and mirrors to over 35lb taken last season.
