This massive opah could be a new world record and is one of five hooked at the same time on a trip near San Martin Island.
The 181lb fish, which is 18lb over the current IGFA record, was caught by Joe Ludlow aboard the boat Excel.
Ludlow was fishing in 190 feet of water soon after the boat has stopped over a shoal of yellowtail. Most anglers fished for the yellowtail near the surface, but the five anglers who dropped heavy lures into deep water all hooked up on opah at the same time.
Ludlow’s fish took over half an hour to bring to the boat and will be submitted for an IGFA all tackle world record.
