UK Youth the organisation with over 750,000 members through 4000 clubs in the UK have added their support to National Fishing Week 2005.

At a recent meeting between the two parties to discuss the aims and objectives of National Fishing Week it became clear that there was a considerable amount of common ground regarding the following issues:

* Social inclusion

* Sporting participation

* Environmental Education

John Bateman OBE Chief Executive of UK Youth commented: ‘Young people benefit from participating in recreational sports such as fishing. It appears that the sport is available to a wide range of young people from different backgrounds and abilities and can create a greater awareness of the environment in particular those children from inner cities.

Our organisation would welcome contact with any event holders wishing to introduce youth groups to fishing through National Fishing Week and see it as an important collaboration to be continually developed.’

National Fishing Week aims to introduce more than 10,000 new participants this year and welcome the support of UK Youth.

Neil Sellers from the organisers of National Fishing Week said after the meeting: ‘It is clear from the meeting with John that in UK Youth we have the ability to attract many young people from youth groups and organisations into the sport of Fishing. As we have much needed support from the Environment agency to provide free rod licenses during National Fishing Week I believe it an ideal opportunity for many of the event holders to consider approaching UK Youth Groups with a view to taking young people fishing at a fraction of the normal cost’.
