PACKINGTON SOMERS FISHERY

MOLANDS   It was been a little up and down on Molands last week with one day fishing well and the next quite hard.  Match weights to 80lb were caught and pleasure anglers reported bigger catches, particularly early in the week.  Top tactics have been to fish long pole and pellet shallow for the F1’s, method or pellet feeder to the island for carp and F1’s or down the margin with meat, corn or hard pellet.  Best pegs have been 2, 8,

12 – 15, 27 – 31, 40 – 48 and 54 – 60.

GEARYS   Fished well through the week but the colder nights towards the end of the week saw catches drop a little.  Weights to 126lb were recorded in matches with carp to 18lb featuring.  Top tactics for carp have been straight lead and pellet or method feeder to the middle stumps with meat or boilies on the hook.  The skimmers have been showing better along the high bank with pole and pellet over ground bait the best tactic.  Top pegs are 9 – 13, 19 – 21, 27, 31, 35 and 36.

LITTLE GEARYS   Shallow is the way at the moment with the biggest weight of the year, 128lb coming to long pole and pellet.  Plenty of fish are also coming down the edges with corn or pellet fished close in catching carp to double figures and F1’s to 4lb.  Top pegs are 3, 7, 10 – 15 and 25 – 29.

GRATUITIES   Carp to double figures are coming down the edge later in the day with meat or corn catching fish to 14lb.  Good mixed nets are being caught on float fished pellet or caster with tench, skimmers and the smaller carp providing the bulk of the catches.  Top pegs are 1 – 4, 8, 9, 11 and 15.

WILLOW   The best pegs have been 5 and 6 where big catches of F1’s and carp to 3lb have been caught this week with a method or pellet feeder fished up to the island  working well on these pegs.  Elsewhere around the pool, pole fished pellet or caster is accounting for good mixed catches.

ANNIVERSARIES   Peg 1 is the peg for big fish with fish to nearly 17lb weighing in during matches and bigger samples have been reported by pleasure anglers.  Corn or meat fished across to the overhanging bushes has been working well on there.  Elsewhere around the pool, there have been pockets of F1’s coming to pellet and there are loads of skimmers on every peg.
