REPORT

MOLANDS   Continues to improve with nets of skimmers and F1’s coming from all areas.  Tench, roach and the odd carp are also coming out with pole tactics the best method.  Caster, pinkies or maggot over ground bait or a straight pellet approach are tempting nets to over 30lb.

GEARYS   Carp to double figures featured in catches this week along with skimmers to 3lb and a few tench.  The carp are coming to method feeder or small pieces of polony on the hook.  Pole and caster over ground bait is the best approach for skimmers and mixed nets.  Best pegs are 9 – 15 and 31 – 33.

LITTLE GEARYS   There has been good consistent sport on Little Gearys with F1’s to 3lb and skimmers making up the bulk of catches at the moment.  Expander pellet fished over micro pellet is the top tactic fished long at 11 – 13 metres but also started to come short at 4 – 5 metres down the margins.  Best pegs 7 – 13, 21 – 23 and 26 – 29.

GRATUITIES   The end pegs 1, 8, 9, 15 and 16 are the in form pegs at the moment with carp, tench and some decent sized chub showing.  Pole with pellet, corn or caster has been the best tactic.

ANNIVERSARIES   Probably the best pool this week with good catches of carp including the odd fish into double figures, tench, roach and skimmers.  The top end bays has been the best area with pegs 1 – 6, 9, 11, 17 and 22 all fishing well.  Pellet or corn on the pole fished to the overhanging bushes or islands has been the best tactic.

WILLOW   Willow has fished well on most pegs with carp, F1’s, skimmers and roach showing all around the pool.  Float fished worm, corn and pellet have been accounting for the best catches with both pole and waggler working.

FISHING REPORT – WEEK ENDING 13/2/11

Last week 70 rods caught 195 fish for an average of 2.79.

The strong winds made life difficult for most of the week but the fishing is still in good form.  All of the pools have fished well with fish moving well on the milder days and even a few coming to dry flies.

The best fish of the week was an 8lb rainbow caught by Ben Foo Collyer of Solihull who was fishing from a boat on Great Pool and he took it on an olive Guinea Lure fished on a sinking line.  Mr P O’Neill of Birmingham caught a 7lb 8oz rainbow on a yellow Dancer Lure fished on an intermediate line from a boat on Cocks Close.  Ray Inman of Birmingham fished Cocks Close from a boat and caught and released seven fish including a brown over 4lb and a rainbow of 4lb 8oz, all of these came to Cats Whiskers fished on a floating line.  Dave Bratby of Birmingham who was fishing from the bank of Cocks Close caught and released six fish to 4½lb on black Tadpole.

The best patterns are Cats Whisker, black or white Tadpole, Fritz Lure, Bloodworm, Damsel Nymph, Montana, Minkie and black Buzzer.

The best areas have been from the old boat jetty round to the wires bank on Cocks Close, the shallow water at the top end of Great Pool and the dam wall and far bank of Park Meadow.

REPORT

MOLANDS   Although not massive weights, every angler fishing the matches last week weighed in with plenty of 20 – 30lb bags taken from all around the pool.  The skimmers are starting to show well with fish from 8oz to 2lb featuring in bags also with F1’s, roach and tench going well.  Pole fish pellet at 8 – 12 metres has been the favourite tactic but caster or red maggot are also accounting for plenty of fish.

GEARYS   Carp to 7lb reported in catches to over 30lb by pleasure anglers last week.  The far side from pegs 31 – 36 has been the best area for carp but the skimmers are still in the deeper water along the high bank with pegs 7 – 13 best.  The pole with pellet is the best approach with corn or caster also producing.

LITTLE GEARYS   Match weights to over 40lb taken last week but the fishing has been a little patchy.  Long pole at 11 – 13 metres with expander pellet is again the best approach.  A small pellet feeder or method feeder fished to the island is also worth a try with bread, dead maggot or expander pellet on the hook.  The best pegs are along the far side from 11 – 15 and car park bank, pegs 25 – 28.

GRATUITIES   The pick of the pools last week with pleasure anglers reporting bags of carp and tench to over 50lb.  The carp run to 8lb but are mainly in the 2lb bracket and tench to 6lb were caught last week.  Pole fished chopped worm or pellet has been the best approach.  Pegs 1, 4, 8, 11 and 14 – 16 have been fishing well.

ANNIVERSARIES   Carp to double figures caught last week along with lots of skimmers, roach and tench.  Pellet, caster or maggot are all catching with pole tight up to the island or far bank features.  Best pegs are 1, 6, 9, 11 – 13 and 19.

WILLOW   The carp and F1’s are spreading out around the pool with nets to 30lb reported last week.  Pole with pellet, caster and corn has worked well and most anglers have enjoyed success all around the pool.

SIBLINGS   Siblings is starting to pick up, the tench beginning to get their heads down.  Corn or pellet is accounting for tench to over 5lb with 2 – 3lb the average.  The reed bed area at the top end is the best area.

REPORT

MOLANDS   Like all pools, Molands was fishing hard through the week but fished very well at the weekend.  The milder weather saw F1’s, roach and skimmers showing all around the pool with even a few tench and carp beginning to have a go.  Nets to over 30lb coming to pellet, caster or maggot fished on the pole at 10 – 13 metres although the fish are starting to show down the near shelf as well.

GEARYS   Frozen at the start of the week and fished very hard until the weekend when the water temperatures went up.  Carp and skimmers started to feed with pellet feeder, straight lead and pellet or pole tactics and accounted for some decent nets to pleasure anglers.  Best pegs were 9 – 13 and 31 – 33.

LITTLE GEARYS   The strong winds made it difficult presenting baits properly especially for the shy biting F1’s that dominate catches on Little Gearys.  The best catches were made at the top end of the wind where nets to over 30lb were caught in matches with long pole and pellet or a small method fished to the island were the best tactics.  Top pegs have been 3 – 5, 9 – 15 and 27 – 30.

GRATUITIES   In great form at the weekend with pleasure catches to over 70lb made up on Saturday and a 56lb top weight in Sunday’s Open.  Pole fished expander pellet or pellet feeder up to the island have been the best tactics producing lots of carp in the
1 – 3lb range, tench to over 4lb, crucians and skimmers.  Best pegs 1, 5, 8 – 11 and
13 – 15.

CRESCENT/WILLOW & ALDER   These small pools have all fished pretty well with carp to 4lb, roach to over 1lb, skimmers and crucians being caught.  Float fished expander pellet, caster, red maggot and pinkies have all been catching.

RIVER BLYTHE   In good form at the moment with chub to 3lb the main species but perch to over 2lb, roach and dace also being caught.  For mixed nets, maggot or caster fished on the stick float is best.  For the better specimens lob worm or breadflake is best.
