PACKINGTON SOMERS FISHERY

REPORT

MOLANDS    All of the pools were completely frozen early in the week but thawed out midweek.  The fishing has been quite difficult with some areas fishing better than others.  Pegs 2- 8, 17 – 27, 45 – 48 and 56 – 60 have been the best pegs with carp, F1’s and skimmers being caught.  A small method feeder fished just tight to the island and punched bread on the lead have been the best tactics.  Molands was restocked with 1000 F1’s between 1lb and 3lb last week.

GEARYS   Frozen until Thursday, anglers at the weekend caught carp with popped-up bread on the straight lead catching fish to over 15lb.  The skimmers showed best along the back bank with pegs 30 – 35 producing nets to 20lb on long pole with pellet or maggot fished over ground bait.

LITTLE GEARYS    Ice-breakers were needed for the midweek matches and sport was very hard with low double figure weights winning.  Pleasure anglers at the weekend enjoyed good sport with F1’s and skimmers coming to the long pole with 4mm pellet fished over micros.  Best pegs have been 7 – 12 and 24 – 28.  500 F1’s between 1lb and 3lb were stocked into Little Gearys in the week.

GRATUITIES   The end pegs on 1, 15 and 16 have been the best areas with carp to 8lb and tench to 4lb coming out to pole fished pellet.

WILLOW   Clearing the reed beds seems to have had the desired affect with better catches coming from all areas of the pool.  Carp to 10lb, tench to 4lb, F1’s and skimmers were caught on long pole and pellet during the Winter League match on Sunday.  Willow was restocked with 200 F1’s from 1lb to 3lb.

ANNIVERSARIES    Still very patchy with skimmers, roach and the odd small carp or tench making up catches to double figures.  With the windy conditions at the weekend, anglers used small cage feeders with red maggot or pinkie on the hook for the better catches.  Best pegs have been 3, 6, 17, 21 and 23.  600 small barbel were stocked into Anniversaries last week.

CRESCENT, FIRST BAY, ALDER AND REEDY BAY   These small pools have provided good sport this weekend being very sheltered from the strong winds and they were popular with the anglers.  Carp to 4lb, tench, crucians and even the odd chub have been coming put with float fished pellet or maggot best.
