PACKINGTON TROUT FISHERY

FISHERY REPORT – WEEK ENDING 25/7/10

Last week there were 70 rods caught 80 fish for an average of 1.15.

The Fishery will close on August 1st for six weeks and weather permitting will re-open on Saturday 18th September.

Ray Cramp of Coventry had another good day this week fishing from a boat on Cocks Close and catching nine fish to 3lb on a small black Lure fished on a floating line.  Mark Goldney of Nuneaton had a five fish limit from the bank with fish to 2lb falling to a Montana Nymph.

On the members’ waters, Ray Martin of Sutton Coldfield had four fish from a boat on Park Meadow pool.  These came to a small P T Nymph and a black Buzzer fished on a floating line.  The biggest rainbow of the week was 3lb 4oz caught in a four fish bag by Mr N Butler of Fillongley who fished a black Lure on a floating line on Cocks Close.

REPORT

MOLANDS   Match weights a little disappointing this week with pleasure anglers fishing into the evening having the best sport.  Paste, pellet or meat fished down the near shelf is accounting for carp to 14lb, tench to 6lb and bream to 3lb along with F1’s, roach and crucians.  During the day a small method fished to the island with micros and ground bait on the feeder and small pieces of polony, luncheon meat or 6mm banded pellet is the best tactic for carp and skimmers.  Best pegs are 2 – 8, 16 – 19, 29 – 31, 37, 44 – 46 and 54 – 60.

GEARYS   Carp being caught all round the pool with plenty of those into double figures,  with skimmers, crucians and tench coming out as well.  Pole fished paste remains the best tactic for mixed nets fishing along the margin or up to any of the near bank features.  The top tactic for carp is the straight lead with 8mm pellet fished at 20 – 30 yards out.  The best pegs are 6, 9 – 12, 17 – 20, 27, 31, 32 and 36.

LITTLE GEARYS   Still the most prolific pool on the complex with every peg capable of throwing up decent catches.  F1’s from 1 – 4lb are providing the bulk of the action but plenty of carp, tench, skimmers and crucians also showing.  Method feeder to the island with meat, white mini boilies or banded pellet and paste fished down the near margin are the top tactics at the moment.

GRATUITIES   The tench fishing has been excellent again this week making the pool very popular with those anglers that prefer tench to carp.  Catches of up to 50 fish from 1lb – 4lb have been reported with pole fished meat or corn accounting for the better bags.  Carp in the 1 – 3lb bracket, crucians and skimmers are also showing in numbers.  The bigger carp are coming off the top with fish to 10lb falling to the dog biscuit.

ANNIVERSARIES    The Vets match on Tuesday was won with over 60lb of tench and bream which came to the corn fished on the pole at peg 2.  All around the pool mixed nets of silvers are being caught on float fished caster, pellet or maggot with plenty of anglers preferring fishing for the silver fish making the pool very popular at the moment.

SIBLINGS   The gravel bar at the top end of the pool has been fishing well for carp from 5 – 10lb, fishing a small feeder from pegs 20 – 23 with pellet or meat at on the hook.  Elsewhere around the pool, tench to 4lb, bream to 4lb and lots of smaller skimmers and crucians coming out to paste, pellet or caster.

WILLOW   Another pool in top form at the moment with lots of carp from 3 – 6lb, tench, F1’s and crucians showing.  Bread fished on the top has tempted the bigger fish but pellet or meat fished close in has been working well for mixed catches.

REPORT

MOLANDS   Although match weights are not huge, the fishing is very fair with most pegs capable of providing decent sport.  Paste fished down the near shelf is working well for mixed nets of F1’s, crucians, tench and skimmers with catches of over 50lb taken this week on this.  The pellet feeder with banded 6mm pellet or polony meat is accounting for the carp with fish to over 10lb being caught from right close up to the island.  Best pegs are 2, 8, 10, 17, 29, 43 – 46 and 52 – 60.

GEARYS   Fishing very well with the carp dominating catches this week and are spread all around the pool.  Carp to over 16lb were weighed in during matches and plenty of doubles are coming out to the pellet waggler or straight lead and 8mm pellet.  For mixed nets the best tactic is to fish close in with paste or meat for carp, skimmers, crucians and tench with the biggest catches being caught in 18” of water.  Best pegs are 7, 9 – 12, 15, 17 – 19, 23, 39, 31 and 36.

LITTLE GEARYS   The in-form pool on the fishery at the moment with every peg providing superb fishing to a variety of tactics.  A feeder fished to the island with pellet or meat is accounting for the better carp and F1’s to 5lb along with lots of smaller fish in the 12oz – 1 ½lb bracket.  Paste or pellet down the edge is working well for mixed nets of F1’s, carp, tench, skimmers and crucians.  Catches in matches to over 70lb but pleasure anglers are reporting nets to over 100lb this week.  Top pegs are 5, 7, 10 – 12, 17 – 19 and 23 – 29.

GRATUITIES   This is the best pool for tench with fish to 6lb+ coming out this week and anglers reporting catches of 30 or more tench in single sessions.  The carp are also going well with fish to 8lb but mainly in the 1 – 2lb bracket with straight lead and 8mm pellet or meat accounting for the better catches of tench and carp.  Pole fished pellet and caster is also proving plenty of sport with crucians and skimmers coming to this.  Best pegs are 1 – 3, 8 and 9 – 13.

ANNIVERSARIES    Float fished corn, meat or pellet is accounting for the bigger fish with tench to 5lb, bream to 4lb and crucians to over 2lb.  Fish the caster or maggot and it is a bite a chuck for the smaller roach, rudd and skimmers.

WILLOW   Fishing very well with carp to 10lb, F1’s to 2lb, crucians to 2lb and tench to 4lb providing good sport all around the pool.  The top tactic is to fish corn or meat tight up to the features down the inside although the bigger carp are being caught off the middle island.

CRESCENT   Another pool in top form at the moment with lots of carp in the 3 – 6lb range coming out along with tench, skimmers, chub and quality roach.  Float fished pellet or meat down the edge is the best tactic.

REPORT

MOLANDS   Although top weights in matches are 50lb+ the pool is fishing well with nets of F1’s, crucians, tench, skimmers and carp coming from all areas giving very fair matches.  The pleasure anglers have enjoyed the best success with the carp, as local rod Ken Hammond found fishing dog biscuit or the candle and catching 15 fish from 7 – 15lb from peg 29 at the far end.  Lots of tactics are catching fish at the moment with pole fished paste down the near margin or pellet feeder across to the island probably the pick of the methods.  Best pegs 2 – 4, 8, 16 – 18, 29 – 33, 44 – 48 and 54 – 60.

GEARYS   There were a couple of 70lb+ skimmer bream catches early in the week with other good nets of silvers being caught from most pegs.  The bigger bream like to get right into the near margin and paste fished down the edge has been a top method this week and it can also account for some big carp, with fish to 12lb caught in matches on this tactic.  Straight lead and 8mm pellet is another top method and this has been the most consistent way of catching carp with plenty of fish in the 4 – 6lb bracket coming out this week.  Best pegs are 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 – 21, 27, 31 and 36.

LITTLE GEARYS   The top pool again this week with lots of F1’s being caught and they range from 12oz – 5lb and catches in matches have been exceeding 70lb with the pleasure anglers fishing longer sessions and exceeding that.  Lots of tactics are working but method feeder with polony, pellet or bread punch is accounting for the bigger F1’s and bigger nets.  The beauty of the pool at the moment is that most pegs are capable of winning matches and it is hard to predict where the winner will come from.

GRATUITIES   This pool is in cracking form with tench to 6½lb reported this week in catches of up to 40 fish in sessions along with a few carp to 6lb.  Straight lead and pellet or pole fished pellet, corn or meat over micro pellet are the top tactics.  Best pegs are 1 – 3, 8, 9 and 14 – 16.

ANNIVERSARIES    Everybody that you speak to who fished Anniversaries over the last week, has said that they have had terrific sport with tench, crucians, brown goldfish, skimmers and roach all very obliging at the moment.  There have also been a few bigger carp caught with Ghosties to over 15lb from the hot carp pegs 1 – 3 at the top end.  Paste or meat is working best for the bigger samples but pellet and corn will give lots of bites.

SIBLINGS   With all the other pools in top form Siblings has been over looked a little but like the others it has been in great form.  Tench, bream and crucians are giving the most productive sport but there were a few carp in the 6 – 10lb bracket also caught last week.  Pellet, paste or meat fished down the near margin is accounting for the better catches.
