Tunnel Barn Farm played host to the eleventh round of Fish’O’Mania on Saturday 12th May and with some warm weather holding strong over the weekend, there were a few fish expected to be caught. The nice weather also brought out a few people on spec on the morning, who all managed to snap up spare places left by anglers not attending.
At the all in the 123 anglers went about their usual feeding routines and it was noticeable that many were erring on the side of caution, looking to build their pegs up, feeding caster or maggots shallow to entice the F1s to feed. As the match went on the fishing became much stronger, with the bulk of weights coming in the last two hours as many of the lakes residents got feeding down the margins.
It was Pete Black who came out top of the pile and qualified for his first ever Fish’O’Mania final. The Fosters of Birmingham employee only had a short hop down the M42 and made the most of his last minute, on-spec draw (peg 21 on Jennys) netting a match winning 172lb 14oz. Pete made use of the popular banded caster approach, feeding regularly to take F1s and Carp to 4lb.
Second on the day was Guru backed, Media Co-ordinator Matt Godfrey. Matt who also co-ordinates our awesome Talent Pathway, drew peg 6 on House pool and managed an impressive 167lb 1oz. Tactics were also casters shallow and Matt caught F1s up to a chunky 4lb.
Rounding out the top three was the ever-consistent Wayne Kearney. The Tri-Cast backed angler drew peg 27 on House Pool and also broke the 150lb barrier with 155lb 1oz. Wayne certainly didn’t buck the trend on tactics either, getting through six pints of casters to take his weight. Wayne also commented that he would very much like to get the win, as all his placings in the qualifiers are getting a little ‘Silly’.
Our thanks must go to Sarah, Mike and the team at Tunnel Barn Farm for another fantastic qualifier, and to Andre Grandjean for hosting another cracking match! There are still plenty places up for grabs HERE in the upcoming qualifiers, next of which is Monk Lakes on the 19th May.
