Top carper Dave Lane’s step-by-step guide to tying his safe lead core clip rig…

STEP One
Here are the basic components you will need, including lead, Korda clips, size 7 or 8 swivels, tail rubbers and lead core.
STEP Two
Before you even start tying the rig, remove half of the clip with a pair of scissors. This will ensure the lead can be released.
STEP Three
You’ll need a lead core leader with a spliced loop (either a ready-tied leader or one you’ve made yourself) and a needle.
STEP Four
Thread the doctored clip onto the lead core, then tie a swivel that’s one size too large for the clip onto the end of the core.
STEP Five
Jam the swivel into the clip (the swivel must not come out of the clip if the lead is to easily come free).
STEP Six
The finished rig. It’s easy to tie and is safe, but please be careful and ensure the lead can easily come free of the clip.
