Norwegian angler Asgeir Alvestad will be able to tell his grand children that he once caught the second biggest fish ever landed on rod and line after bringing a monster 1.1 ton greenland shark to the boat.

The mighty fish was 4.79 metres in length and was also measured around its girth at 2.66 metres, bringing up a weight of 1099.2 kg.

The fish was landed at 2.30am and took 1.5 hours to bring under relative control in Nedstrand Fjord east of Haugesund, Western Norway.

The biggest fish ever landed by an angler was a 1.2 ton Great White Shark.
