Clear skies, and hot and humid conditions greeted anglers on Saturday’s Shakespeare qualifier, but this didn’t deter Evesham’s resident bream from feeding! Winner on the day was Alcester Sports rod, Nick Cowling. Nick caught four bream on flat float tactics, feeding chopped worm and caster, and fishing a small piece of worm on the hook. Nick fished 13 metres from the bank, and took all four of his fish in the second hour of the match – with the anglers either side of him also managing a bream each.
Second place went to Pole Fishing and Match Fishing magazine’s Tom Scholey. Drawn on peg 87, Tom fished maggot and hemp on the long pole to take a 2lb skimmer, and 12 smaller silver bream. When the line petered out, Tom switched to chopped worm down the edge, and managed several chunky perch, and a bonus eel to finish with 11-14-0.
In third place was Shakespeare Superteam’s latest recruit, Brian Rigby. Brian drew peg 2 on the Town Length, and caught a nice net of perch fishing a strung rig over a bed of chopped worms and casters.
