COLIN Matthews was left cursing his luck after his bid to beat the massive match record at Daventry’s Drayton Reservoir was foiled by an electric storm.
The Kettering angler weighed in nearly 400lb, and was just two fish off celebrating his 42nd birthday with a new best mark.

He would have smashed the prolific Northamptonshire water’s existing six-hour record of 412lb, but a freak storm 90 minutes before the end put the fish off the feed for a crucial 30-minute spell.

Colin was fishing one of the day ticket venue’s Tuesday mini-matches, which are usually fished from 12 noon till 6pm, and drew peg 43 on the dam wall.
