After a fabulous year which saw Drennan TeamEngland scoop the World title and a silver medal in the European Championships, Mark Addy and Mark Downes, joint team managers, have decided to “stick to a winning formulae”

The World Championship squad going to Portugal, Alan Scotthorne, Will Raison, Stuart Conroy, Steve Gardner, Sean Ashby and Des Shipp, all retain their places.

Mark Downes said “this squad has fished together in four championships so far, European or World, and a gold or silver medal has been secured each time.  Hopefully, this year will be no different”

Dick Clegg said “for the past five years I have been involved with this team and recognise because of new rule changes that restrictions are made on selections. The anglers concerned work exceptionally well together and I am sure that they will have an excellent chance of a medal. The venue so far has very few natural fish and because we have no knowledge of the species stocked in the rowing course, a team with all round ability is necessary.”

The European squad has Alan Scotthorne, Will Raison, Stuart Conroy and Steve Gardner being joined by Steve Hemmingway and Darren Cox.  Mark Addy  said  “the venue in Rieux, France, is a wide, deep river where pole, waggler and bolo will all play a role.  This squad is ideally equipped to tackle such a venue.”

Mark Downes added “new rule changes mean you can only use four of the same anglers in each team, but we’re very lucky in having numerous top class anglers to choose from.”

The Six Nations team will be named at a later date.
