The River Severn has produced the biggest zander ever caught by design in the UK – a 20lb 2oz beauty.

The fish fell to the rod of Martin Jauncey during a day’s boat fishing with Chris Fowles. Martin was floatfishing a roach livebait on a 2/0 hook attached to 30lb Fox Easy Twist wire.
Martin, who is no stranger to big zander having previously landed fish to 18lb 10oz, describes the River Severn as ‘the best zander venue in the country’.
Martin says he often fish areas with a decent flow, which others anglers might dismiss, and adds that it only takes a slight variation of depth of a foot to provide a good holding area for zander.
Meanwhile predator ace Neville Fickling has said that a 25lb zander from the big river is not out of the question.
