The River Trent at Burton Joyce was holding nearly four feet of extra water for this weekend’s qualifier and thus a bit of slack was needed for a few bites. However, weights for this qualifier were as good as ever and there some proper battles along the stretch.

Paul Cannon took the match and B zone from peg eight with an impressive 37lb 10oz. This consisted of six bream to 7lb on a groundbait feeder fished in the slower moving water.

Taking A zone from end peg one, on Nelson Field was John Price, with 33lb 10oz. John has fished a similar match to Paul and had six smaller bream on the tip, along with a cracking 3lb perch on the pole.

The final qualifier was Wayne Swinscoe from peg seven, Ferry Field, C Zone. Wayne has fished an open end feeder to take roach and dace early, and then put together another 150 dace on the stick float for 17lb 1oz.

A special mention also must go to James Robbins who also put 17lb 1oz together in C zone, but lost out to Wayne on a draw.

This ruling will once more be looked into for RiverFest 2020, and any practical measures to decide a qualifier fairly, will be considered.
