The second round of the Warwick Winter League was a little disappointing with fish hard to come by in some areas, on a river cooled by a sharp overnight frost.

Peg 7 at Saxon Mill is always good for a few roach and turned up trumps again for Porto/Bailey’s Tom Hitchman.  Fishing caster on long pole Tom caught roach to 4 ounces steadily through the match for a level 5-00-00 lbs winning bag.

At Myton Road 3 Gordon Thorpe, Jetbreakers “B” took a bonus tench to boost his small roach catch to 4-15-00 and second place.

A guest appearance from Rob Middleton, representing Guys Cliffe Ballers, took a 4-07-00 net of small roach from Avon Street 34 and third place.

Graham Thompson and John Fisher tied for fourth place with 4-06-00 leaving Martin Cox  to complete the frame with 4-03-00.

The team event was equally as tight as the individual event, with Match Box putting in a solid performance for a 60 points winning total, ahead of Jetbreakers “B” on 56. Guys Cliffe Ballers made 55 points for third with Porto/Baileys in fourth with 53. Wormbashers and The Joseph Arch were joint fifth with 52 points with Warwick’s Portobello in 6th just off ‘the pace’ with 46 points.

Fourth place for Porto/Baileys was enough to keep top league place with 114 points. Guys Cliffe Ballers climbed to second on 108 with the two Jetbreakers sides are lying 3rd and 4th, separated by one point, with the “B” stream ahead on 106 to the “A” sides 105. Wormbashers on 98 points and Browning Central 89 are in 5th and 6th waiting for the leaders to make a mistake.

Graham Thompson is leading the individual league with 35 points, ahead of this week’s winner Tom Hitchman on 33 along with Derek Martin.
