Birmingham’s Kamasan Starlets became the latest English team to make little or no impact on the World Club Championships, finishing 20th of the 29 outfits on Italy’s Canale Brian at Torre Di Mosto.

Mark Downes’ outfit sat in 12th place and within seven points of a medal position after the first day, but their best result over two days was a second in section. Starlets had qualified by winning the Division One National last year. With the Italian outfit Ravenelli Trabucco surprisingly unable to mount a serious challenge, the gold, silver and bronze medals went to the teams from Serbia, Slovenia and Hungary respectively. In better news for Starlets, Sophie Davis put up a solid defence of her Ladies National crown, finishing third at Coleman’s Cottage. The event was won by Emma Pickering. Starlets, who won the team even in 2012, finished third overall.
