TO start 2006 off with a bang, Southern Angler has joined forces with CEMEX Angling to bring a great new specialist series that sees Gareth Purnell and Steve Martin on a quest to catch a new personal best each month.

And it’s going to be a golden year for one lucky Southern Angler reader, as starting this issue the monthly magazine is offering the chance to win a six-month CEMEX Angling gold card in our regular reader token competition we are running alongside the series. A CEMEX gold card costs a cool £1200 and gives access to any of their 50 waters including top angling on the likes of the Rivers Arun, Wey, Lea, Kennet, Medway and Ivel, plus famous stillwaters like Wraysbury 1 and 2, Yateley and Horton, to name just a few.

Our intrepid pairing have set themselves a challenge to try and better their own best weights of specific fish and each month the pair will visit one of CEMEX’s top venues to target a seasonal species using alternative tactics.

Each month the pair will also be joined by a venue specialist who will give some top tips on how to tackle the water and may even reveal a few secrets that have given that added edge to catch a specimen.

On top of the chance to win the big ticket, of which we have two on offer over the next 12 months, in every issue we are giving away a permit to fish the featured venue for a month.

The first token for our gold card prize is printed in the current (January) issue of Southern Angler (see below) and to be in with a chance to win, you need to collect tokens from the next five issues of Southern Angler and send them in with the entry form that will be printed in June’s issue.
