The first float only open on the River Severn at Arley saw the 19 competitors battling both an out-of-sorts river and difficult weather conditions.

Colin Harvey from Upton-upon Severn coped best with the pacey river, bright sun and downstream wind to catch a winning 16-10-0 of roach, chub and small barbel on bolo and maggot from upstream peg 9 on the Hexton’s Farm stretch.

Gloucester’s Brian Pollard claimed second place with 15-8-0 of barbel caught on waggler and bolo fished maggots from peg 7 and he was followed by Alf Hand from peg 14 with 14-6-0 of chub on waggler and maggot.
