THE capture of a new record barbel at 20lb 6oz has been confirmed to Total-Fishing.

The fish fell to Northants Specimen Group stalwart Tony Gibson, who was fishing the well known Adams Mill section of the Great Ouse.

It’s one of the venue’s known big fish, called ‘The Traveller’, and fell to a Source boilie, fished in conjunction with a Stonze lead. The current British record stands at 19lb 6oz and was caught from the Great Ouse by Tony Curton.

Midland Angler Maver Specialist of the Year Ashley Burton commented: “The first 20-pounder from the Ouse was only really a matter of time, but it’s a fine capture all the same. Anglers who fish other rivers simply have to be realistic about the specimen weight for their own water. Just because the record is now 20lb does not mean a 10lb barbel is not still a wonderful fish to catch.”
