YATELEY’S tough Carp Park Lake has produced its first fish since November in the shape of ‘Uglo’ at 33lb 10oz.

Jon McAllister took the sought after fish after experiencing heartbreak when he hooked and lost a good carp earlier on Saturday.

The fish are obviously on the move, because since then, the venue’s smallest mirror carp, called ‘Pineapple’, has also been out. This time the fish fell to Alan Welch and it’s the first time it has been caught all season. The only known fish not to have been taken this season from the Carp Park Lake is ‘Big Orange’.

Meanwhile Nick Helleur has been fishing St John’s Lake at Oxfordshire’s Linear Fisheries and has been in his usual form, bagging two twenties zig-rigging 10ft off the deck. The fish were a common of 24lb 6oz and a mirror of 24lb 8oz.
St John’s has produced at least two more twenties in the last week plus a 53lb catfish – the second biggest in the lake – to a fairly shell-shocked Matt Eldridge from Southampton. Matt was fishing into the deep water off the Point and it was his first ever cat.
