After three hard-fished canal matches, Dave Brown topped the first-ever Wolverhampton AA Summer Angling Festival.

Fished in anything but summery conditions, the Maver Midlands all-rounder fended off some of the best canal anglers in the country to take top spot with four penalty points, a point ahead of Browning Lifestyle’s Simon Mottram.

The event utilised three venues over the three days: Wombourne and then Penkridge on the Staffs-Worcester Canal, finishing at Brewood on the Shropshire Union. And although the fishing was similar, the latter produced the best weights with the top two in Karl Johanson (Eclipse) and Simon Mottram both weighing in over 14lb.

The event will be fished again in 2013.
